GIRLS U15 LADY TAVERNERS CUP MATCH v APPLETON Sat 25 July
Our girls took on a strong Appleton side who boasted numerous Cheshire age group players. Bredbury batted first and our openers put on a creditable 45 before Amy Bagley retired after a well struck 25 (5 x 4s). Unfortunately the innings subsided to 53 after the alloted 16 overs. Appleton took 7 overs to knock off the runs. Other highlights included a stinging c&b by Sarah Pearson and a brilliant pick up and throw by Paige Thorley that nearly resulted in a run out.

Sunday 10 May v Trafford (A) KO cup (20 overs)
A weakened 9 player Werneth side took on a similarly depleted Trafford team (Manchester football derby match on at same time). Werneth took first knock and struggled against an accurate bowling attack on an unpredictable pitch. They grafted for their runs lacking power to penetrate the longish grass in the outfield. Only 3 wickets fell in the first 14 overs and Werneth batted all but 4 balls of their allotted overs thus achieving their original targets. Only 33 runs were amassed. Mary Priestner and Sinead Murphy both took 2 wickets for 3 and 6 respectively for Trafford.
Sadly this total was insufficient as the experienced Trafford openers knocked off the runs between them. Werneth opening bowlers Chloe Withers made run scoring difficult and with Georgie Morton bowling with a bit of fire Trafford didnt have it all their own way. It was the tenth over before the winning runs were hit.

Monday 11 May v Romiley and Dinting (H) 20/20 cup competition
Romiley and Dinting arrived to find a much stronger Werneth team facing them. Romiley and Dinting rebuilt their innings against the hostile pace of Amy Green after losing their first wicket with no runs on the board. The fourth and fifth overs turned out to be crucial to whole game as Lydia Slack and Kim Allen launched into the Werneth bowlers. They smashed 26 runs in those 2 overs. Lydia was then becalmed as she only added 2 more runs before being out for a top score of 24. Werneth bowlers (Vic Downes 2 for 11, Chloe Withers 2 for 19 and Alex Wilson 1 for 8) did a really good job supporting the effervescent and excellent Green (4-3-11-4) in restricting Romiley and Dinting to 86.
Werneths response began brightly with Vic Downes (12) celebrating her return from 12 months in Australia sharing a 28 run opening partnership with Chloe Withers (25 retired). Werneth were favourites as they reached 59 for 2 after 14 overs. However Romiley and Dintings bowlers supported by tight fielding put on a stranglehold that Werneths batters could not break. Romiley and Dinting ran out worthy winners in a hard fought competitive match from which Werneth can take great heart for their good all round performance.
ROMILEY AND DINTING 86 for 9 WERNETH 72 for 5
